Prime Minister Kurti welcomed Afghan journalists to Kosovo

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, welcomed the four Afghan journalists who arrived in Kosovo last night and will stay in Pristina within the framework of the “Journalists in Residence – Kosovo” program, financed by the Government of the Republic of Kosovo.

Welcoming them to Pristina, Prime Minister Kurti expressed his satisfaction that he is meeting them today in his office. He said that the people of Kosovo are united with their cause and that of the Afghan people for democracy, respect for freedoms and human rights and prosperity.

Amina, on behalf of the group of journalists, said that they are grateful for the hospitality in Kosovo and for the support of the Government. After the difficulties experienced in Afghanistan, he said that they are lucky to be here and that they already feel at home.

The prime minister and journalists talked about the current situation in Afghanistan, the position of journalists and human rights activists there, and especially of women and girls under the Taliban regime.

Together with the Afghan journalists Amina Omid, Ahmad Shaker, Nimatullah Gholami and Raifullah Nikzad, the Chairman of the Board of AGK, Xhemajl Rexha, and the Executive Director of AGK, Getoarbë Mulliqi Bojaj and the Legal Officer of the European Center for Press also participated in the meeting and Media Freedom ECPMF, Flutura Kusari.

Afghan journalists were welcomed to our country a month after the Government’s decision to provide them with housing, a monthly salary, health insurance and a return ticket, when circumstances arise for them to return to their homes.

The program “Journalists in Residence – Kosovo”, initiated by the European Center for Press and Media Freedom ECPMF, is financed by the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, implemented by the Association of Journalists of Kosovo and supported by the Hannah Arendt Initiative. Until now, through this program, 12 Ukrainian and 4 Afghan journalists are staying in Kosovo.
