The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Donika Gërvalla Schwarz, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Liza Gashi, and the Consul General of Kosovo in New York, Blerim Reka, meetings continued with members of our diaspora and representatives of Albanian associations and organizations operating in the United States of America. Today they were welcomed in New Jersey, in an organization of the Albanian-American Cultural Center “Struga”, chaired by Sinan Alimi. Among those present was the ambassador and friend of our people, William Walker.
The prime minister started the conversation with them by expressing his thanks for the warm reception and gratitude for the continuous contribution and the important role they play even today. He shared with them the latest developments in the country, details from the meetings within the High Level Week of the United Nations General Assembly and the results from the governance of more than 3 and a half years. The Prime Minister listed the rule of law, trust in institutions, economic reforms, good governance and democratic progress as characteristics that have characterized the Government of the Republic of Kosovo in recent years, despite global challenges. He singled out support for women and girls, both in education and in employment and growth of their businesses, adding the importance of empowering women within society, while emphasizing that the state budget has increased and invested in key areas and sectors such as defense, education, education, health, agriculture and energy. He also informed them of the government’s policies for the diaspora, with the aim of including it as much as possible in social and economic development. Among them, the Diaspora Investment Window was highlighted, through which it is intended to guarantee loans to businesses with owners from diaspora who want to invest in Kosovo. On this occasion, he invited them to see the opportunities offered by Kosovo for investments and to see them as opportunities for them and their business partners.
“If three decades ago, dear compatriots, we told you to sacrifice to contribute, now we tell you to invest to win,” he told the audience.
The Albanian-American Cultural Center “STRUGA” was born as a need of the Albanian community, mainly from Struga in New Jersey, who founded it in 1977 under the name “Albanian Joint Fund”. This fund was aimed at organizing life based on culture and traditions, helping members with the various needs of life in the diaspora. Numerous activities of national interest have been developed through this organization. The support of political organizations at the beginning in the 90s in Macedonia and Kosovo were among the first activities, during the war in Kosovo the organization reached its culmination of organization where almost every member of this center played their role in the interest of this issue. This Center at that time in its location in Paterson had the privilege of gathering the members of the Atlantic Battalion from there they went to the war fronts in Kosovo. After the war in Kosovo and Macedonia, with the expansion of the activity and activities of the organization, the name was changed to “Albanian American Cultural Center”, as the number of members increased, the Artistic Cultural Society was founded, the Albanian school was expanded, which currently has 120 students. registered to teach Language and History), and the football club “Vllaznimi” also operates within the organization.
