The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by the Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, and the Deputy Minister of Finance, Labor and Transfers, Agon Dobruna, visited the summer camp of SOS Children’s Villages.
During a conversation with the staff of SOS Villages, Prime Minister Kurti was informed about the purpose and results of the Family Empowerment Program, about the progress of work in general, as well as activities within the summer camp and various organizations in SOS Villages.
The Family Empowerment Program is implemented in Pristina, Fushë Kosovë and Graçanica and aims to empower families to prevent abandonment. The program works directly with families in four main pillars: good parenting, education, health, psychosocial support and economic empowerment. The families that are part of the Family Empowerment program are families that face many challenges and as a result of the challenges, are at risk of losing parental care. A family stays in the SOS programs for three to five years and during this time is continuously supported by trained and professional staff. Currently, the Family Empowerment Program supports about 900 beneficiaries, of which 661 are children and young people and their families. While, during the last three years, 92 families with over 200 children at risk, have come out of the program as empowered families, which thanks to the family empowerment program can offer their children the warmth of the family and support them in developing their full potential.
Prime Minister Kurti expressed his satisfaction with the organization of this program and congratulated the staff for their work and continuous care for the children. During the conversation with staff, he underlined the adoption in December of last year of the Law on Social and Family Services, this law, which will strengthen support for children who find care in SOS Villages.
The Prime Minister also met with the children who are participating in this summer camp, from whom he also received a symbolic labor gift.
The summer camp, organized within the Support Center for Children and Families, under the motto “A summer with many colors”, was considered successful. Many donors and volunteers contributed to it, making a week full of fun, games and beautiful memories possible for the participating children.
