The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, visited today the central facility of the Kosovo Correctional Service in Pristina. In this visit he was accompanied by the Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Xelal Sveçla.
During the stay there, they talked about the work and challenges of the correctional service, as there are a total of 1734 prisoners in the 11 prisons of Kosovo, of which 1120 are convicts. It was emphasized the approval of the law on the KSKA, which established new units, such as those for the Evaluation and Classification of Prisoners, for intelligence, the Economic unit and the establishment of the Institution for the Treatment of Persons with Special Needs, as well as the approval of the strategic development plan for the KSKA 2023-2027, through which the fulfillment of the agency’s vision is aimed.
They also talked about rehabilitation programs and professional training for convicts and the possibilities of cooperation with different organizations.
In order to improve the infrastructure, with the support of the Government, a budget of 8 million euros has been allocated for the construction of new Correctional Centers, and they are: Correctional Center for Women in Lipjan; Detention Center in the Prizren region with a capacity of 300 beds; and the expansion of the Institute of Forensic Psychiatry.
