During this morning, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, had a telephone conversation with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. Prime Minister Kurti thanked President von der Leyen for his support to Kosovo for economic development, modern democracy and legal justice, as well as informed him about the achievements and successes of our country in many fields.

He said that he hopes that Kosovo’s application for membership in the EU will be dealt with as soon as possible, because we are looking forward to receiving the many questions from the European Commission and answering them honestly with deep internal reforms, as the most pro-European of the Western Balkans that we are.

In this conversation, the necessity for de-escalation of the situation in the four northern municipalities of Kosovo and for the normalization of relations with Serbia through the implementation of the Basic Agreement was also discussed.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Kurti informed the President of the European Commission about the confiscation of numerous weapons four days ago in Zveçan in a car with Belgrade license plates, in the place where four weeks ago brutal violence was perpetrated against KFOR soldiers, Kosovo policemen and journalists. He expressed his willingness to reduce the police presence in municipal buildings in the north gradually and in proportion to the establishment of law and order, which would simultaneously enable an open and fair campaign before the early democratic elections in these municipalities.

Prime Minister Kurti thanked President von der Leyen for this heartfelt and sincere conversation.
