Prizren, 7 August, 2024
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Hajrulla Çeku, today held a conversation with the students of the International Summer School at the University of Prizren.
This summer school, with students from 45 countries around the world, is taking place under the theme: “Zbulimi i Diversitetit: Dija Nuk Njeh Kufij” (“Discovering Diversity: Knowledge Knows No Borders”).
During the conversation, Prime Minister Kurti said that students and professors are the mirror of a country who show how countries, continents, and their future look. He informed them that in almost three and a half years of government, higher education has become free.
One thing that the government, namely the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, has focused on, is scholarships, the prime minister singled out. He said that there is no better investment that we have made than scholarships for students – especially for women and girls who study in STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, for which the prime minister emphasized the fact that 50% of students in Kosovo universities in STEM fields are women, while the EU average is 17%.
Speaking further about the state of Kosovo, Prime Minister Kurti informed the students of the latest news, including our first year of visa-free travel in the Schengen area, economic, social and democratic indicators, as well as the latest successes in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where we won two medals, raising to five the number of Olympic medals won in three Olympics in which Kosovo has participated.
He further mentioned the fact that our country stands out for its religious, cultural and ethnic diversity. He added that we proudly have and implement one of the Constitutions with the highest protection of minority rights, which, among other things, includes 10 seats out of 120 reserved for minorities.
The prime minister also spoke to the students about the diaspora, calling it important and active, where they are already looking for new ways to invest and contribute to our country.
In the end, Prime Minister Kurti answered the various questions of the students of the International Summer School at the University of Prizren.
