The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by members of the Lleshi family and colleagues from Gjakova, today paid tribute and laid fresh flowers at the martyrs’ cemetery in Vraniq, Gjakova, on the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Martyrs Mema and Father Zef Lleshi.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Kurti said that the Lleshi family, like many other families in Kosovo, have contributed to the liberation of the country, so today we proudly remember the two members of this family, Memë and Prend Lleshi, who fell heroically in direct confrontation with Serbian enemy forces.
“The four sons of the Lleshi family, martyrs of the nation, fighters of the Kosovo Liberation Army, fallen in direct battle for the freedom of the homeland, are buried there. They are: Mark Lleshi, Kolë Gjon Lleshi, Memë Zef Lleshi and Prend Zef Lleshi. Mema and Prendi were martyred 25 years ago, on January 28, 1999, in battles with the Serbian forces in Goden of Has, while Mark and Kola were immortalized as martyrs on August 7, 1998, in the battles that have been named the Battle of Markallesh”, said Prime Minister Kurti.
Remembering the sacrifice of this family, he said that the total commitment and struggle of the Albanian families, like the case of the Lleshi family, paved the way to the freedom of Kosovo. All the effort and sacrifice of the martyrs and martyrs of the Albanian people is monumentalized as a sacrifice in the foundations of the Republic of Kosovo, our state that we love, that we need and that we are trying to make stronger every day, said the Prime Minister.
