The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, together with the third Deputy Prime Minister for Minority Affairs and Human Rights, Emilija Rexhepi, the Minister for Communities and Returns, Nenad Rashić and the Minister of Local Government Administration, Elbert Krasniqi, welcomed to the meeting municipal officials for the communities, who came from 15 municipalities, from the south and north of the country. The officials themselves belong to the Bosnian, Egyptian, Serbian, Albanian and Turkish communities.
In his speech, Prime Minister Kurti addressed some of the main achievements for the integration and well-being of citizens from non-majority communities.
He mentioned the establishment of the Commission for the Verification of Diplomas, the launch of the initiative for employment of citizens in the north of Kosovo by subsidizing 70% of the salary for new employees for 6 months and the implementation of the regulation issued last year that provides a legal basis for first in the history of the Republic of Kosovo for announcing vacancies for jobs in institutions only for members of non-majority communities.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the paid internship initiative “Kosovo Generation Unlimited” where 16% of internship jobs have been achieved so far for young people from non-majority communities. He also addressed the start of the process for piloting the new social scheme, the granting of grants through the Ministry of Education this year with an increase of up to a quarter of a million euros for 9 learning centers where Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian children learn, and the work of the Inter-institutional Working Group for the Reporting and Prevention of Early Marriages in the protection of hundreds of girls every year, whose health, education and employment opportunities have been endangered by marriages under the age of 18.
The Prime Minister added that with the support for all schools in Kosovo, and with the affirmative measures such as the beginning of the verification of the diplomas of secondary schools that teach in the Serbian language, we have proven that we are for the development of education for all children in Kosovo and from all communities. He said that our common future depends on the skills of the youth which is ensured through education for all.
He added that there is already work and concrete achievements, but together we can achieve even more successes for the well-being of citizens of non-majority communities in Kosovo.
In the discussion, in addition to initiatives to increase employment among members of non-majority communities, topics related to budgets for communities at the municipal and ministerial level were also addressed.
