The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, hosted today in his office the rector of the University of Pristina “Hasan Prishtina”, Professor Qerim Qerimi, together with the Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arbërie Nagavci.
On the eve of marking the 54th anniversary of the establishment of the University of Prishtina, the achievements and challenges faced by this institution were discussed. Rector Qerimi informed Prime Minister Kurti that with the new draft statute for the University, apart from being an important document for the institution, it aims to bring about necessary changes in raising the standards of the institution as a whole, not only in the country but also beyond.
The change of this statute, which is now for consideration and approval in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, comes after a full 11 years. Rector Qerimi thanked Prime Minister Kurti for the help the Government has given through the scholarship scheme in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, STEM, for girls, which he described as a returnable investment for the country.
Prime Minister Kurti thanked Rector Qerimi for his contribution to improving the quality of higher education, thus also the development of society in our country. He also expressed the full support of the Government towards the advancement and strengthening of the University of Pristina.
During the meeting, the need for additional engagement on the issue of deficit profiles was also emphasized. The University of Pristina so far has cooperation agreements with 500 international academic institutions. To increase the exchange of experiences with other countries, the University of Pristina is creating other alternative programs also in English for students from abroad, as well as joint study programs at the doctorate and master’s level.
