The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, hosted the Head of UN Women in Kosovo, Mrs. Vlora Nushi.
The meeting focused on joint efforts to advance the agenda of gender equality and women’s empowerment in Kosovo, towards a more equal and inclusive society.
In this meeting, the mutual commitment to improving the position of women and girls in all areas of life, including education, the labor market and political participation, was reaffirmed.
The close cooperation between the Government of Kosovo and UN Women was appreciated, on the 25th anniversary of the presence of UN Women (UNIFEM) in Kosovo, in the efforts to promote women’s rights and create an environment where women and girls have equal opportunities.
During the joint meeting, where the executive director of the Agency for Gender Equality, Edi Gusia, was also present, the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Platform was also mentioned, one of the most important moments in the history of the global movement for gender equality. The progress achieved in Kosovo since the adoption of this historic platform was discussed, but the need to intensify efforts to address challenges, including prevention and protection from gender-based violence, as well as increasing women’s participation in decision-making, was also highlighted.
