The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, held a telephone conversation with the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Olaf Scholz.
After the successful voting this month by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) which with 131 votes FOR asked the Committee of Ministers to accept Kosovo as the newest member of the Council of Europe next month, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti held a telephone conversation today with the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Olaf Scholz.
Interstate relations and Kosovo’s European integration, namely Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe, were the main topics of conversation.
Prime Minister Kurti informed the German Chancellor about the socio-economic progress achieved in these three years of governance in Kosovo: for the development of the economy and the improvement in the indicators of democracy and the rule of law.
With the most advanced framework in Europe for the rights and protection of non-majority communities, also highlighted by the report of the Eminent Jurists of the Council of Europe, the results in democracy, rule of law and human rights, Kosovo’s admission to the Council of Europe is the right action and the right decision in the promotion of the values of the Council itself and the advancement of democracy, emphasized the Prime Minister during the discussion on the process of Kosovo’s membership in this organization, as he asked the Chancellor for Germany’s support until Kosovo’s full membership.
We recall that the Council of Europe, on the basis of the report of the rapporteur, Dora Bakoyannis, which included the recommendations of the Eminent Jurists of the Council of Europe, was voted with 82% of the votes by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
The opinion of the Assembly of the Council of Europe asks the Committee of Ministers to accept Kosovo without preconditions or additional conditions as its newest member, which at the same time is the only democratic European state that is not yet part of this important organization.
Kosovo’s admission to the Council of Europe strengthens human rights and the rights of non-majority communities as it guarantees access to the European Court of Human Rights.
