On the Liberation Day of Kosovo, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, commemorated the civilians killed 25 years ago in the massacre of the Bala family in Dardani, Peja. On June 12, 1999, the armed forces of Serbia brutally killed six innocent and defenseless civilians, five of whom were children.

That night, the sisters Nita and Rina (5 and 6 years old) were killed together with their mother Vjollca (28 years old). Rroni (4 years old) was hiding behind his mother Vjollca and when the shooting started, he was unconscious. After waking up, he went to the room of his grandmother Mahije, who was paralyzed and was hiding under her feet. His father, Musa (31 years old), was violently abducted and found dead, mutilated by torture, on June 17, 1999.

On June 12, 1999, Agon (6 years old), Dardanja (11 years old) and Hajri (12 years old) were also killed. Their mother, Halisja, survived nine bullets in her body. Isa Bala and his son Vetoni (8 years old) also survived.
