Gjilan, November 23, 2024
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, attended the closing ceremony of the “Maths4talents” project last night, an initiative that has provided free training for talented students in the subject of Mathematics of Olympiads. Along with delivering a speech, he, together with the Mayor of the Municipality of Gjilan, Alban Hyseni, also distributed certificates and acknowledgments to students who have shown outstanding results in the Gjilan Mathematics Olympiad 2025.
Mathematics is crucial both for the development of a student’s logic and for the depth and sharpness of the mind. I believe that Mathematics along with Language are the two most important subjects for children, for students, for their professional future, and for their intellectual, as well as artistic growth,” said Prime Minister Kurti in front of the students and other attendees.
He informed them that next year the Government of Kosovo will support the organization of the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad and that for this purpose, 200 thousand euros have already been allocated, thus demonstrating our commitment to strengthening education and supporting talents.
The Prime Minister pledged that the Government will continue to support any initiative that promotes science in general, and especially Mathematics, making this field a source of knowledge and inspiration for new generations.

Honorable Mr. Bregan Isufi, President of the Gjilan Mathematicians’ Association,
Honorable school principals,
Honorable teachers,
Honorable parents and students,
Honorable attendees,
Mathematics is among the most beautiful subjects, although it is often perceived as one of the most difficult, and the Government of Kosovo is committed to supporting all activities that promote this valuable and important field of knowledge and development.
We are proud to inform you that next year the Government of Kosovo will support the organization of the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad. For this purpose, 200 thousand euros have already been allocated, demonstrating our commitment to empowering education and supporting talents.
Furthermore, the Government of Kosovo will continue to support the activities of the Association of Mathematicians of Gjilan, a new but extremely active organization in achieving its goals and in the development and promotion of Mathematics.
Today we have gathered to conclude the project “Maths4talents,” an initiative that has offered free training for talented students in the subject ‘Olympiad Mathematics’.
This project is supported by the Municipal Education Directorate, and today we have the pleasure of certifying the best of this olympiad.
Mathematics is crucial both for the development of the student’s logic and for the depth and sharpness of the mind. I believe that Mathematics along with Language are the two most important subjects for children, for students, for their professional future, and for their intellectual, and I would even say artistic, development.
I also had my first Mathematics teacher from Gjilan. He was Taip Sylejmani who prepared us for Mathematics competitions, and I have the fondest memories of the difficult tasks and problems he helped us solve quickly, involving as many students as possible.
Now, as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, I pledge that the Government will continue to support every initiative that promotes science in general, and especially Mathematics, making this field a source of knowledge and inspiration for future generations.
Thank you and all the best.
