The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, along with the Minister of Health, Arben Vitia, deputies of the Kosovo Assembly, and healthcare professionals, inspected the progress at the Hemato-Oncology Clinic and the Nephrology Clinic, a project that aims to reach the highest healthcare standards in the country.
This investment amounts to a total of 4,299,293.31 euros, covering the construction of a modern three-level building:
• Basement: 1056 square meters for material storage and technical services depot to support clinic activities;
• Ground Floor: 1094 square meters, the location for the Nephrology Clinic and its related services;
• First Floor: 1610 square meters, where the Hemato-Oncology Clinic will be, including isolated areas and the super-construction on the existing Dialysis ward.
At the conclusion of this project, two new services will be provided:
• Plasmapheresis service, a procedure that will help treat patients with kidney disease;
Autologous Bone Marrow Transplant for the treatment of acute leukemia, which will enable patients to be treated locally without the need to be transferred outside of Kosovo.
“This project has a total value of nearly 4.3 million euros and will provide services with the highest healthcare standards for the treatment of patients with these two diseases, who will now begin to be treated in our Republic, rather than citizens having to go to the hospital for treatment to think about which airline to travel abroad, as has been the case for more than two decades. So there will be access to new services, which are currently not available in our country. This is the most important leap forward being made in healthcare investments,” stated Prime Minister Kurti after the visit.
He expressed his gratitude for the cooperation between UCCK, HUCSK, clinic directors, health staff, doctors and nurses.
This project was initially planned to be completed within 48 months, then accelerated to 36 months, and according to the latest updates, it is expected to be completed in 24 months or 2 years.
This rapid progress reflects the commitment of the Ministry of Health and the HUCSK, to meet the needs of patients as quickly as possible with advanced equipment, new services, and modern infrastructure.
Prime Minister Kurti’s full statement:
We are here together with the directors of HUCSK, and UCCK, Elvir and Osman, we are together with the deputies of the Assembly Haxhiu and Vendenisi and with the Minister of Health, Arben Vitia for a very important project which is the construction of Nephrology Clinics and Hemato-Oncology here at UCCK.
This project has a total value of nearly 4.3 million euros and will provide services with the highest healthcare standards for the treatment of patients with these two diseases, who will now begin to be treated in our Republic, rather than citizens having to go to the hospital for treatment to think about which airline to travel abroad, as has been the case for more than two decades. So there will be access to new services, which are currently not available in our country. This is the most important leap forward being made in healthcare investments, as we learned from the manager of this project, it will have three levels of buildings, the basement, it will have the ground floor and the first floor since Nephrology occupies the space of 1094 square meters on the ground floor. Hemato-Oncology, located on the first floor with an area of 1610 square meters, and the investment has a total area of 3760 square meters. The contract period is 48 months, the implementation duration is 36 months, and we were informed here that this period will be shortened, and in fact, the aim is to complete it in 24 months, meaning instead of 36 months, for 24 months, which means instead of three years, only two years. As you can see, the works are in progress, otherwise the workers’ hammers would be heard, but they see that there are microphones and cameras here and they have a certain understanding from a distance.
Firstly, it is important to emphasize that in the basement we will have several main areas, a warehouse for consumables, diagnostics for Nephrology and Hemato-Oncology, priority and common technical services, and the heated corridor for connection with the existing dialysis department as explained to us by the manager.
Meanwhile, in the ground floor is the Nephrology Department, where the main entrance will be located along with common areas for vertical communication, as well as direct connection to the Dialysis Department through the corridor. In the meantime, the first floor is the Hemato-Oncology Department, with the accompanying contents including this construction above the existing roof, the existing dialysis in this isolation area.
These are the new services that are our focus, as development, investment is done with the patient at the center, it is the plasmapheresis service, which for the first time will be offered in Kosovo, and we are committed to also offering kidney biopsy. The other is autologous bone marrow transplantation for acute leukemias, a possibility that previously, as I began this conversation, sent our patients abroad for treatment, but with the completion of this project will be carried out within the University Clinical Center of Kosovo.
Therefore, I congratulate both the UCCK, and the HUCSK, the director, and we are very grateful for this cooperation that we have between the UCCK, and the HUCSK, clinic directors, healthcare staff, doctors and nurses, the Ministry of Health, members of the Assembly, where we are also joined by Fatmire Kollçaku Mulhaxha, and also simultaneously the contractors who will work efficiently and with unprecedented quality because the three-year planning will be done in two years.
Thank you very much!
