Today, the renovations at the Oncology Clinic were inaugurated, which reached the investment value of around 600 thousand euros. On this occasion, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti and the Minister of Health, Arben Vitia, were present.
Investments in this clinic include three areas: in equipment, expansion of the list of essential drugs and decentralization of services. At the same time, the complete renovation of the facility has created more suitable spaces for patients and staff, especially increasing the capacity of beds, from 45 to 60, and soon there will be 110 beds. Prime Minister Kurti also mentioned the newly installed accelerator, which cost 1 million and 444 thousand euros, and the waiting list, which is now zero.
“In addition, I am very happy that I found out that the process of giving the HBV vaccine for cervical cancer is going very well and at the same time the list of essential drugs has been expanded by Minister Arben Vitia, by Dr. Iliri, from the director Elviri, I learned that this is the biggest help that has been practically given because the drugs are expensive and the budget has increased from 8 million to 13 million. Let’s not forget that compared to three years ago, the budget for the list of essential drugs has increased from 24 million euros to 60 million euros, that is, two and a half times more or 150% more in just three years.” said the prime minister.
He also added the fact that from the two magnetic resonances we have had over the past 20 years, three new ones have already been added in the last three years. Meanwhile, tablet therapy that used to be given only in Pristina, is now also given in Prizren, which means decentralization of services.
The Minister of Health, Arben Vitia, expressed his happiness that in such a vital and important clinic in our Republic, patients will from now on receive much better quality services, with many drugs, without a waiting list for radiotherapy and in conditions extremely good.
“I thank the staff of the Oncology Clinic, all those who have been involved in the radical renovation of this clinic, and I also wish that there will be as few diseases as possible, but those who will need it now will get it all services in the best quality way”, Minister Vitia said.
He said that rarely anywhere in the region have all the infrastructural, apparatus and therapy possibilities that are now being used in the Oncology Clinic, and this is thanks to the work of all the actors and the maximum commitment of the health staff.
Present at this inauguration ceremony, in addition to Prime Minister Kurti and Minister Vitia, were also the General Director of UCHSK, Elvir Azizi, and the Director of the Oncology Clinic, Ilir Kurtishi, as well as the deputies of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, Fatmire Mulhaxha Kollçaku and Haxhi Avdyli.

I had the pleasure of visiting the Oncology Clinic in which we have a substantial investment of about 600 thousand euros that has transformed it in a very significant way for the doctors, nurses, support staff that are 70 in total, but first of all and above all for the patients this clinic so necessary and useful.
They had 45 beds, now they have made 60 beds and soon there will be 110 beds. In addition, with the new accelerator that we have installed, the waiting list is zero, so there is no waiting, and this accelerator cost 1 million and 444 thousand euros.
It is important to mention that the two architects, the contract manager and the interior fitters are all local. So, they are not international companies, but they are experts, professionals of our country. In addition, I am very happy to know that the process of providing the HBV vaccine for cervical cancer is going very well and at the same time the list of essential drugs has been expanded. In general, in Kosovo, citizens of the Republic who become patients buy about 120 million euros of drugs. Now it falls to him that half of this cost is paid by the state and half by the patient. Meanwhile, three years ago patients paid 80% and the state 20%. So, from the former 20% of the state’s payments, it has been increased to 50%, while the purchase of drugs in general is there – about 120 million euros. From 24 million euros, we have gone to 60 million euros.
What is very important for the citizens of the Republic is that I wish that they do not become patients that they do not need, but from the two magnetic resonances that we have had during the 20 years, in just these three years there are also three new resonances.
Tablet therapy used to be given only in Pristina, now it is also given in Prizren, so we have decentralization of services and what I believe has impressed you all is that the Oncology Clinic is known from the outside, although the economic operator has whitewashed it outside as well, although this is not it was in the contract, but inside what makes it the main difference and if I hadn’t entered this door I wouldn’t have known which clinic I was in, is the fact that the ceiling was broken and raised by 30 centimeters and not only that, but there is air purification with filtration and air conditioning.
Therefore, this is a very beautiful day for all the citizens of the Republic, and in particular for the patients, doctors, nurses and support staff of the Oncology Clinic, whom I thank from the bottom of my heart for their professional dedication and for their tireless work and contribution. , not for every day, but for every hour and every minute.
