The delegation chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kosovo Government, Edita Tahiri who is also leading implementation of the agreement on normalization, took part in the first meeting of the implementation group for telecommunications, reached between the Republic of Kosovo and Republic of Serbia, with EU facilitation, in which they discussed the Draft Action Plan, presented by the European Union.

As part of the discussions on implementing the telecommunications agreement, the discussion focused on defining an optimal deadline for receipt of a state telephone code for the Republic of Kosovo, bearing in mind ITU procedures and of course EU involvement. In addition, steps were discussed in respect to the migration period that would follow the adoption of a three digit unique code by the Republic of Kosovo.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Tahiri, once approved, this action plan will create the possibility for the signing of a regulatory agreement between the Regulatory Authorities of the two states, and she added that they also discussed methods of cooperation between mobile operators, in order to lead up to the signing of an interconnection and roaming agreement, which will be in the interest of citizens and will reduce telephone tariffs.

The parties also discussed modalities relating to the agreement, which regulates once and for all the problem of coordinating TV and radio frequencies and establishes deadlines for the termination of illegal intervention by Serbia in this sector in the territory of the Republic of Kosovo.

Finally, Ms. Tahiri said that they discussed both mobile and land lines, including the deadlines and each party’s obligations deriving from the telecommunications agreement.
