On the second day of his official visit to Brussels, Prime Minister Thaçi, was received by the European Union President, Herman Van Rompuy.

In the meeting, they discussed Kosovo’s European agenda and speeding up this important process for Kosovo’s present and future.

Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi emphasized that the confirmation by the European Union Council of Ministers of the substantial progress of Kosovo’s European agenda, with the initiation of a Feasibility Study is an essential step forward for Kosovo’s European perspective.

In the meeting with Mr. Rompuy, Prime Minister Thaçi emphasized that “dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia is fundamental to promoting European values. This is not just my vision as a leader, but that of all Kosovo’s citizens. This is the reason why we believe that the agreement reached for regional representation and that of integrated border management mark a new phase of inter-state relations between Kosovo and Serbia”.

In addition, Prime Minister Thaçi emphasized that Kosovo’s people and institutions are grateful for the EU’s support for Kosovo, through the concrete steps taken to advance Kosovo’s EU integration. In this context, Prime Minister Thaçi especially thanked President Rompuy for supporting Kosovo’s European integration.

I would like to assure you that in Kosovo, we will continue working intensively to do our homework, to achieve necessary reforms to develop our economy, to bring Kosovo closer to the European Union. But, we also expect the EU to open the door to us and to help us make this road as short as possible – said Mr. Thaçi.

The European Union President, Herman Van Rompuy praised the commitment and leadership of Prime Minister Thaçi to deepening commitments to fulfilling the European agenda for Kosovo.

During his meeting with the Prime Minister, Mr. Rompuy reconfirmed that Kosovo’s future is European and that on this journey Kosovo and its institutions will have the full support of the European Union.
