Pristina, 30 September 2008

On the occasion of the celebration of Fitër Bajram, the Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr Hashim Thaçi, today visited the Kosovo Islamic Community where he was hosted by the Mufti of Kosovo, Mr Naim Tërnava.

Offering his best wishes for Fitër Bajram to Mufti Tërnava and all Muslim citizens of Kosovo, Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi said that we, as a country and as a people, have experienced many difficult times. We always prayed that we would celebrate the next Bajram in free Kosovo. We reached that time when we celebrated Bajram in free, liberated Kosovo.

Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi went on to say that we also prayed that when we gave each other good wishes for Bajram we might be celebrating in Kosovo, an independent and sovereign state. And today, for the first time, we are celebrating this great day, a day of solidarity, a day of incarnation in a Kosovo which is an independent, sovereign and democratic state.

What we have achieved is a great success. It is the success of everyone in Kosovo; it is a success resulting from great unity. Civil unity, harmony, religious and ethnic tolerance are Kosovo’s great resources, a guarantee for a good future for us. The Kosovo Islamic Community has contributed extraordinarily to this, so today I thank them on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, said Prime Minister Thaçi.

Thanking the Mufti of Kosovo, Mr Naim Tërnava, for his warm and friendly welcome as part of the celebration of Fitër Bajram, Prime Minister Thaçi added:

We have reached this point together, we have come with brotherly solidarity and a lasting political and civil unity, and I want to believe that we will continue thus in the future too.

Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi expressed his confirmed belief that the Kosovo Islamic Community, as in the past, would make their contribution today and in the future for strengthening the image of Kosovo as a free and democratic country.
