Washington, 15 April, 2023

While at the spring meetings in Washington D.C. of the first deputy prime minister for European Integration, Development and Dialogue of the Republic of Kosovo, Besnik Bislimi and the Minister of Finance, Labor and Transfers, Hekuran Murati, the discussions for a new support program from the International Monetary Fund have been successfully concluded.

The new program includes initially making available the amount of 80 million euros within the newest IMF instrument called Resilience and Sustainability Fund, and with the possibility of expansion for another 80 million euros.

At the moment of approval by the IMF Board, Kosovo will become the first country in Europe to benefit from this type of program with the IMF.

The funds from the RSF program are expected to be made available to Kosovo for investments in the construction of new wind and solar renewable energy capacities.

The rest of the support will be in the form of a Precautionary SBA in the amount of 100 million euros for the next 2 years.

The starting point for this achievement was the success in the rapid consolidation of public finances, and prudent fiscal decision-making. This is also a proof that our reforms are being evaluated by international institutions such as the IMF.

Minister Murati said that a special thanks goes to the whole team who worked hard in the preparation of this program.
