Prishtina, 28 January 2009
Welcoming and thanking the representatives of the World Bank for their support in this important area, Mr. Manaj informed those present about the aims of the Republic of Kosovo’s Government in drafting a strategy for the development of a sustainable employment policy.
”It was for this,” said Deputy Prime Minister Manaj, “that we formed the Inter-Ministerial group, as well as the technical team of experts. With the support of the World Bank, this team will draft a strategy which will then be reviewed and approved by the Government. The strategy,” Mr. Manaj went on, “will be the key activity of our work in this area, with the aim of finding and increasing available jobs.”
Mrs. Anita Schwarz, the Leader of the Program for Sustainable Employment Policies in the World Bank, said that the World Bank, as well as the group made up of ten donors, wanted to support sustainable employment policies through the Kosovar Government.
“We want to know what the Government’s requests and areas of interest are in this field and we want to help them as far as we can, being mindful of the challenges ahead of us given the significant level of unemployment in Kosovo,” said Mrs. Schwarz.
As well as those of the World Bank, delegated representatives from the Ministries for Economy and Finance, for Education, Science and Technology and for Trade and Industry were also present to contribute to the meeting, which comes ahead of a joint workshop which will take place on February 2nd.
It is expected that by June of this year, a joint strategy for the development of a sustainable employment policy will be drafted; consulting and including other relevant factors. The strategy will build on a basic program drafted by the World Bank as well as by the Government’s efforts and aims to achieve a practical increase in the number of jobs available and a rise in the quality of work.
