Regional Women’s Lobby considers that democracy and justice are the cornerstones for a sustainable peace that provides the European future of the region, she said. Further, Ms. Tahiri said that the bitter past of wars in the region cannot be changed nor can they be forgotten, but we can and should build a better future for all, where the nations and countries in the region respect and accept each other and work together for the Euro-Atlantic agenda and good neighbourliness. Society should be aware that women make up half of the human capital, so we have to create the right space f
or activating women’s leadership potential, for a better future for all, she said.

In his speech, Croatian President Ivo Josipovic stressed the importance of increasing the awareness of the full equality of women and their rights in the public sphere and in society by emphasizing the existence of discrepancies between normative rights and the real position of women in contemporary society. In particular, he was committed to ensuring women’s full access to justice, and in this case called for justice to act especially towards women who are victims of war and sexual violence, noting that for the most part justice did not do its job and that those responsible of the crimes have not yet received the appropriate punishment.

In the framework of the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Edita Tahiri had a conversation with Croatian President Ivo Josipovic where they reaffirmed the good relations between the two countries and expressed the willingness to further strengthen the mutual cooperation in areas of common interest and within the frames of Euro-Atlantic agenda.
