Deputy Prime Minister Edita Tahiri met with the President of Mongolia, Tsakhia Elbegdorj

During her stay in Mongolia, in the context of participation in the International Forum of Women Leaders, Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo Edita Tahiri met with President of Mongolia, Tsakhia Elbegdorj as they talked about the importance of close relationships between the two countries and sought the recognition of Kosovo’s independence by Mongolia.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Edita Tahiri spoke about the overall progress of the construction of democratic and sovereign state of Kosovo and about strengthening its international position in accordance with state vision towards a Euro-Atlantic Kosovo. She noted that this meeting between Kosovo and Mongolia is happening at a historical moment for Kosovo, namely the phase of concluding the international supervision of Kosovo and that Kosovo is already a state with complete independence. Mr. Tahiri stressed that the state of Kosovo is the result of an investment and centennial sacrifice of the people of Kosovo and in this context, the history of the independence of Kosovo and Mongolia are very similar, as well as their future based on common values of democracy and freedom.

On this basis, Deputy Prime Minister Edita Tahiri sought from Mongolia the recognition of Kosovo, stressing that the strong international recognition that the state of Kosovo enjoys today and its confirmation of the international legality by the ICJ, are also contributing to peace and stability in the region, therefore, the recognition by Mongolia will also be a contribution in this regard.

The President of Mongolia, Tsakhia Elbegdorj, expressed the satisfaction on the progress made by Kosovo in the process of democratization and state consolidation and praised Kosovo’s modern vision for its future. President Elbegdorj promised that Mongolia will seriously consider recognizing the independence of Kosovo in a very near future, and has a very high appreciation for the movement of the people of Kosovo for freedom and independence.

In continuation of her activities in the framework of participating in the International Forum of Women Leaders, Ms. Tahiri held a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Mongolia, Mr. Gombojav Zandanshatar who has promised that his country would deliberate the issue of recognizing Kosovo’s independence.

Also, Deputy Prime Minister Edita Tahiri delivered a speech at the Conference on “Empowering women in decision-making levels” where she spoke about Kosovo as a model for empowering women and as an indicator of democratic development of the society and of the new state of Kosovo.

Secretary of the State Hillary Clinton also attended the concluding session of the International Conference of Women Leaders.
