Deputy Prime Minister Tahiri briefed Prime Minister Berisha on the progress made in the democratic state building in Kosovo and especially on the new favorable developments at this stage of the conclusion of the supervised independence for Kosovo and opening of a new chapter in relations between Kosovo and the EU.
On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Tahiri pointed out that the Government of the Republic of Kosovo is committed to advance the Euro-Atlantic agenda for Kosovo by implementing a wide program of European reforms in the interest of the state and the people. She also spoke about the engagement to consolidate the territorial sovereignty of Kosovo, by assuring welfare for all the citizens regardless of their ethnicity. “The Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo is the guarantee for a democratic state and society and the Ahtisaari document is the only and most advanced plan for the integration of Serbian citizens in the northern part of our country,” said Deputy Prime Minister Tahiri.
During the meeting, there was also discussion on the course of the technical dialogue in Brussels and on this occasion, Mrs. Tahiri pointed out the proven commitment of the state of Kosovo to achieve results in the dialogue in line with the Constitution of Kosovo and the red lines set by the decisions of the Assembly of Kosovo. On the other hand, she emphasized delays in the implementation of the agreements by Serbia and added that the parallel structures and the logic of barricades speak for themselves about the anti-European policies that Serbia is applying towards Kosovo.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, Sali Berisha, acknowledged the progress of the state of Kosovo and expressed the full support of the Republic of Albania for the Euro-Atlantic perspective of Kosovo. He pointed out that the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Kosovo is a vital interest for Albania and promised a firm engagement by the Albanian diplomacy to increase the number of recognitions.
Mr. Berisha highly assessed the constructive engagement of Kosovo in the technical dialogue and expressed his full support for the Government of Kosovo in this dialogue on technical issues of importance for both states, Kosovo and Serbia, and also for the entire region.
In the meeting, both interlocutors pointed out that an immediate integration of the region in the EU and NATO is in the interest of all the countries and a key precondition for lasting peace and stability in the region. Likewise, he said that the region needs to be led by European principles of good neighborhood and regional cooperation and that mutual respect for states and borders is a contribution to stability and prosperity of the region.
