The Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Kosovo, Ms. Edita Tahiri received the OSCE representative, Mr. Pascal Hayman and OSCE Ambassador to Kosovo, Mr. Jean – Claude Schlumberger, in a meeting in which they discussed the local elections process that will be held this year in Kosovo.
Mr. Blerim Shala, coordinator of political dialogue and Ms. Valdete Daka, Head of the Kosovo Central Election Commission, also participated in the meeting.
Deputy Prime Minister Edita Tahiri praised highly the OSCE’s readiness to contribute to local elections in Kosovo, to be held this autumn, and reconfirmed the commitment of the Kosovo Government to ensuring a democratic electoral process, in accordance with the laws of the state of Kosovo and the highest international standards.
In the meeting, they discussed their joint commitment to the success of elections in the four northern municipalities and the importance of a high turnout of all citizens in order to chose legitimate representatives for municipal governance, in harmony with the interstate agreement on normalization of relations between the Republic of Kosovo and of Serbia and for the implementation plan, in which the OSCE plays a facilitation role.
Ms. Tahiri expressed the joint commitment of all institutions and the entire political spectrum in the Republic of Kosovo to ensuring these elections are free, democratic and with a high turnout, emphasizing the importance of the participation of Serb citizens in the four northern municipalities of Kosovo.
“The establishment of order, law, democracy and normality is in everyone’s interest in that part of our country, where it has been absent for many years”- said Ms. Tahiri.
In the meeting, they also talked about the process of preparing for elections that is being undertaken by the CEC as the competent institution for organizing elections in the state of Kosovo, and the importance of intensive cooperation between the KEC and OSCE with regard to this process.
