“The initiative to create a support center for students with special needs in the premises of the University of Prishtina is an important effort that aims to promote the inclusion and development of an inclusive educational environment”.

This was emphasized by the first deputy prime minister for European Integration, Development and Dialogue of the Republic of Kosovo, Besnik Bislimi, during his visit to the recently established Center for students with special needs at the University of Prishtina.

The Government of the Republic of Kosovo remains committed to creating a suitable and supportive environment, so that this Center can be a continuous resource for improving educational services and preparing them for a successful future.

During the past year, which was declared the year of persons with special needs, the Government undertook various initiatives where it expressed its commitment to students with special needs.

To help in their conditions, he distributed laptops to students with special needs, who study in public universities of Kosovo, as well as in pre-university institutions, he increased the number of assistants employed for children with special needs.

The latter was mentioned and evaluated as positive by the Country Report, but we still have a lot to do for children and students with special needs in Kosovo who face various challenges in terms of inclusion in educational institutions.

Also, Measure 1.6 for the support of persons with special needs of the Economic Revival Package, has aimed to make employment a challenge which is addressed to create an environment where no one feels excluded and everyone has equal opportunities in employment. This measure, in addition to aiming at learning skills, also aims at their sustainable employment.

We strongly believe that education is the essential instrument to change the future and through inclusive education we also increase the opportunity for employment.

The combination of cooperation and coordination with our partners is an important aspect of the realization of this project, but also an added value that helps to strengthen our initiative for the improvement of educational opportunities.

The inclusion and support of students with special needs is not just a program task, but a substantial and worthwhile mission.

The rector of the University of Prishtina, Qerim Qerimi, the head of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Kosovo, Nuno Queiros, and participants from non-governmental organizations and civil society and students were also present in this visit.
