Prishtina, 11 January 2024

The first Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Development and Dialogue of the Republic of Kosovo, Besnik Bislimi, today held a meeting with representatives of the Albanian-language media from the Presheva Valley.

During the meeting, the development of Albanian information media was discussed in the municipalities of Presheva, Bujanoc and Medvegja, as well as the challenges faced by the media and citizens there.

Media representatives of the Valley expressed serious concerns regarding the discrimination against Albanians and, in particular, the unstable and discriminatory situation towards the Albanian media in the Valley. Although the legal provisions should ensure equal access for the Albanian-language media in Serbia, they still face obstacles and difficulties when they try to benefit from the financial support necessary to meet all the necessary conditions.

The need for financial sustainability is a key issue for cooperation, increasing the professionalism and quality of Albanian information in the Valley, respecting the principles of independent journalism and professional ethics.

Deputy Prime Minister Bislimi informed the participants about the possibilities of co-financing from the budget of the Republic of Kosovo for the Presheva Valley. He also expressed the commitment of the Government to support and contribute positively to the improvement of the situation in the Presheva Valley.
