Prime Minister Thaçi: This will not have the power to harm the independence, democratic order, rule of law, freedom and security of the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo
Citizens of the Republic of Kosovo
Last night my family was attacked.
Like every parent and husband I am happy that my family is healthy and safe.
Immediately last night, and throughout the whole day today, I received many messages of solidarity from this country’s institutions and citizens, as well as from many international institutions and friends.
Many of them came to see me personally.
On behalf of my family and for myself, I thank them all for the respect and solidarity which they showed.
I hope that by means of this communication with you I will assure you that no-one will have power to harm the independence, democratic order, rule of law, freedom and security of the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo.
Thus I ask of all citizens to carry on calmly in giving their contribution for the strengthening of our new country – let’s maintain our civic and political unity.
Only together can we have success.
I ask all the political forces to focus jointly on our priorities for forming a state.
Within a few days our country will have a constitution too.
The founding values of that highest legal document are freedom, security and citizens’ property.
Nobody will be able to harm and threaten these values.
Nobody, and certainly not this attack, will be able to stop our work to make Kosovo a proud state within the European Union and NATO.
To create this reality requires even greater work in fighting corruption and organised crime.
This work carries risks.
However, I assure you that I will continue this battle against evil, with even more decisiveness, for the good of the country and of all citizens.
I, as the Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, will not be stopped for a single day, nor for a single moment, in carrying out my obligations as a citizen and as a Prime Minister, so that every family in Kosovo, every one of her citizens, will feel secure in their property, their home and their homeland.
