Transformed Coronary Care Unit at the Cardiology Clinic Inaugurated

Prishtina, 27 October 2026

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, together with the Minister of Health, Arben Vitia, and the Ambassador of Luxembourg to Kosovo, Eric Dietz, inaugurated the transformed Coronary Care Unit at the Cardiology Clinic, following an investment of €211,000.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Kurti said that, step by step, the premises of the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo (UCCK) are being renovated so extensively that they are being transformed. With each investment, modern equipment is also being provided, creating better conditions for patients’ recovery.

“In this unit, patients need close monitoring, treatment and constant attention. For them, these premises are where they go through difficult days, but also where they begin to recover. For their families, it is important to know that their loved ones are receiving the care they need, in good conditions and from well-trained professionals,” Prime Minister Kurti said.

Thanking Minister Vitia, the teams that worked to deliver the project, and healthcare professionals who turn investments into patient care through their work, Prime Minister Kurti said that Cardiology had been made a priority because cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in Kosovo.

“Therefore, we will soon return to the UCCK, once again to Cardiology, to launch further renovation works, or rather, new transformations,” he said.

Full Speech by Prime Minister Kurti:

Honourable Ambassador of Luxembourg to Kosovo, Eric Dietz,
Honourable Minister of Health, Arben Vitia,
Honourable Director of the Kosovo University Hospital and University Clinical Services, Elvir Azizi,
Honourable Director of the UCCK, Mentor Zejnullahu,
Esteemed heads and doctors, Faik and Hamëz,
Honourable members of the media,
Ladies and gentlemen,

Allow me first to express my most sincere condolences on the passing of Dr Zekë Zeka, an anesthesiologists and veteran of the Kosovo Liberation Army, who will be remembered with respect and gratitude for his contribution both to public healthcare and to the freedom of our country.

Distinguished guests,

Step by step, the premises of the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo are being renovated so extensively that they are being transformed. With each investment, modern equipment is also being provided, better conditions are being created for patients to recover, and greater opportunities for recovery are being made possible, since these improved conditions also benefit those who care for patients, namely doctors, specialists and nurses.

Six months ago, we met here to inaugurate the transformed premises of the Invasive Cardiology Unit, where a new angiography system was also installed. This investment, worth more than one million euros, is now serving patients and helping to reduce waiting lists.

Today, we are here to inaugurate the transformed Coronary Care Unit at the Cardiology Clinic, following an investment of €211,000.
In this unit, patients need close monitoring, treatment and constant attention. For them, these premises are where they go through difficult days, but also where they begin to recover. For their families, it is important to know that their loved ones are receiving the care they need, in good conditions and from well-trained professionals.

Both phases of these investments have been carried out with the support of the Government of Luxembourg, for which we are very grateful. The results of this support can be seen here, in the clinic’s day-to-day work and in the quality services our citizens receive.
I thank Minister Vitia, the teams that worked to deliver this project, and you, healthcare professionals, who through your work turn investments into care for patients.

So, although time passes and we all grow older, the clinics are being renovated one by one and becoming newer. For difficult days, we are providing better conditions, so that more patients can recover and their recovery can be as swift as possible.

We have made Cardiology a priority because, as you know, cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in Kosovo. Therefore, we will soon return to the UCCK, once again to Cardiology, to launch further renovation works, or rather, new transformations.

I wish you every success in your work in these premises and, of course, a speedy recovery to the patients.

Thank you, and congratulations to everyone!
