On the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, met with the Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
Prime Minister Kurti expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the valuable and continuous support provided by Kuwait since 1999—ranging from the recognition of independence in 2011 to standing by Kosovo in the international arena. The Prime Minister received thanks from the Crown Prince for the support given in combating extremism in the Gulf region. They also discussed the contribution of the Kosovo Security Force to the peacekeeping mission in Kuwait as part of the Iowa National Guard.
Emphasizing that the time has come for a significant new step, the Prime Minister added that the friendship between the two countries should evolve into a concrete partnership for economic development.
He expressed the Republic of Kosovo’s readiness to sign the memorandum on the Joint Cooperation Commission, which will provide new opportunities and a stable framework for relations between the two states. They also agreed to finalize agreements on the avoidance of double taxation and the protection of investments in the near future.
The Prime Minister stated that the shared need and will for broader and deeper economic cooperation are inextricably linked to Kosovo’s achievements in key sectors—such as information technology and the defense industry—where our young people and companies demonstrate daily that Kosovo is a land of talent, hard work, and opportunity.
