The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, received in a farewell meeting the Head of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo, EULEX, Giovanni Pietro Barbano, whom he thanked for his contribution and service.
The meeting appreciated the role of EULEX in supporting the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo in the field of the rule of law, including monitoring the justice system, support for the police, correctional services and forensics, as well as engagement in issues of particular importance to citizens, including the treatment of cases of violence against women, domestic violence, child protection and victims’ rights.
Acting Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that, in the new mandate, justice reform remains a key priority, with the aim of increasing efficiency, accountability, independence and citizens’ trust in justice institutions. He underlined the importance of the digitalization of the justice system, not only as a technical modernization, but as an instrument for transparency, better case management, reduction of delays and strengthening of institutional accountability.
Acting Prime Minister Kurti wished Mr. Barbano success in his future engagements and expressed the Government’s readiness to continue close cooperation with the Mission and the new leadership of EULEX. Meanwhile, Mr. Barbano thanked the Prime Minister for the cooperation and congratulated him on victory in the parliamentary elections of 7 June.
Finally, the Prime Minister presented the books “Portraits of Skanderbeg through the centuries” by scholar Luan Tashi and “Ambassadors” by author Henry James, as well as a poster with bridges on euro banknotes.
