Acting Prime Minister Kurti commemorated those killed in the Nabërgjan massacre in Peja

Nabërgjan, 1 May 2026

On the anniversary of the massacre in Nabërgjan, Peja, the Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, paid tribute in honor of 31 innocent civilians killed by Serbian military and police forces.

Acting Prime Minister Kurti said that men, women, and children, aged 13 to 95, unprotected and unarmed, were killed simply because they were Albanians and wanted to live freely in their own land.

“This crime was carried out by the state military and police machinery, conceived and planned in Belgrade by the regime of Slobodan Milošević, with the aim of exterminating the Albanian people. But their genocidal plan failed. Our people survived. We are here—free and victorious,” said the Acting Prime Minister.
He emphasized that for full peace, justice is necessary, and that without justice, wounds remain open.

“The Government of the Republic of Kosovo has strengthened its capacities for investigation and prosecution. Therefore, today we call on the State Prosecutor, in particular the Special Prosecution, to act without delay on the basis of existing evidence, so that criminals are brought to justice, even in absentia,” Acting Prime Minister Kurti added.
