Lupc i Poshtem, Podujeva, 1 February 2026

Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, paid homage in honor of the martyr of the nation Elfete Humolli, on the 36th anniversary of her killing.

“36 years ago there were demonstrations across Kosovo, not only in cities, but also in Kosovo’s villages. One night earlier, on 31 January 1990, there were strong demonstrations in Podujeva, and the next day they continued also in Lupc i Poshtem. The last words that are said to have come from Elfete’s mouth are: “Where is Mentor, has he escaped?”. Because as a 16-year-old in the demonstration, her greatest worry there was her 13-year-old brother,” Prime Minister Kurti said in the statement to the media after the homages.

The Prime Minister added that Elfete had taken to the demonstrations for the Republic of Kosovo, for the protection of the people, against the occupation by Serbia, and like many other students was at the forefront of the stand and resistance, which then preceded the armed uprising and the liberation war carried and led by the KLA.

Her brother Mentor also fell as a martyr in May 1999, as a member of the Kosovo Liberation Army.

“Elfete and Mentor Humolli are brother and sister, but they are also a symbol of sacrifice, of dedication, of the people of this country, who with their steadfastness, are found at the roots, at the foundations of the freedom and our state, and of our aspirations for state progress, but also national,” Prime Minister Kurti said.

Prime Minister Kurti also visited the Humolli family, while in the book of memories he wrote: “The sister asks where the brother is, whether he has escaped. These are the last words of Elfete Humolli, a martyr of the nation, who fell heroically as a student of the secondary economic school in a demonstration against the occupation by Serbia in Lupc i Poshtem on 1 February 1990, when she was only 16 years old, about her 13-year-old brother Mentor, who became a martyr as a fighter of the KLA on 21 May 1999 in battle with the same enemy Serbia. The roots of freedom and the foundations of the state are in the shed blood of the best daughters and sons of the nation. Glory!
