Mitrovica, 29 January 2026

Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, together with the Mayor of South Mitrovica, Faton Peci, elected deputies of the Assembly of Kosovo and associates, visited the Brahimi family on the 25th anniversary of the killing of Gazmend Brahimi, where he was received by his father, Agim Brahimi, his mother, Sale Brahimi, and his brother, Armend. Earlier, he placed fresh flowers at the place where Gazmend Brahimi, 15 years old, on 29 January 2001, was killed by a hand grenade thrown in his direction by Serbia’s criminal gangs. The street where Gazmend was killed now bears his name.

“25 years ago, Gazmend, who loved his childhood neighbourhood so much, the Bosniak Neighbourhood, was killed by the explosion of a hand grenade, thrown in his direction by Serbia’s criminal gangs, which at the time terrorised on a daily basis Albanians who had returned to their properties. With him was also his brother Armendi, who still carries 17 fragments of the grenade in his body. That Monday, Gazmend had set off for school to gain knowledge. That day, he gave the lesson of how one should love one’s birthplace,” Prime Minister Kurti said after the visit.

Glory to all martyrs and fallen heroes of the Albanian people!
