Prime Minister Kurti met with the Prime Minister of Belize, John Briceño

New York, USA, September 26, 2025

During the High-Level Week of the United Nations General Assembly, the Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, accompanied by the Acting Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Liza Gashi, and Kosovo’s Consul General, Ambassador Blerim Reka, held a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Belize, John Briceño.

They discussed opportunities for economic cooperation between the two countries and sectors with potential for foreign investment, alongside areas such as education, tourism, social and employment policies, and culture. Prime Minister Kurti informed his counterpart about Kosovo’s progress in the economic and democratic spheres, as well as in security and wellbeing, and thanked him for Belize’s support of Kosovo in its processes of membership in international organizations. He also emphasized that soldiers of the Kosovo Security Force are deployed in Belize as part of joint security and cooperation commitments within the co-deployment mission with the United Kingdom’s army.

Both prime ministers extended invitations to each other for visits to their respective countries and agreed to pursue exchanges in areas of mutual interest.

The State of Belize recognized the Republic of Kosovo in August 2008, and in April 2016, the two countries established diplomatic relations. In 2021, Kosovo and Belize, precisely in New York, signed a memorandum of understanding on bilateral consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both states. This memorandum aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas of common interest, including international relations, human rights, peace, and security.
