The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, together with the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, and the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, Dimal Basha, paid tribute at the memorial plaque “Kosovo Remembers” in the courtyard of the Government and Assembly building, in remembrance and honor of the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack in New York, United States of America.
Prime Minister Kurti’s full statement to the media:
As every year, on September 11, together with the President and the Speaker of Parliament, we pay tribute and lay fresh flowers here at the memorial plaque in the joint courtyard of the Government and Assembly, dedicated to the victims of the terrorist attack against the United States of America, when 19 Al-Qaeda terrorists, using four airplanes, killed 2,977 Americans, among them, as the Speaker also mentioned, three Albanians: Mon Gjonbalaj, Simon Dedvukaj, and Rrok Camaj, who also fell victim to this cruel terrorist attack. This attack not only changed international relations but also warned of the great risks that lie ahead of us in this century.
Today, it is not only non-state actors but also states that exercise terrorism. We have had this experience in Kosovo, where certain illegal structures directed by official Belgrade carried out terrorist actions in our country. But naturally, in the old European continent, the terrorism most widely exercised is that of the Russian Federation and its despotic president, Putin, against the Ukrainian people and against the values of freedom and democracy.
Today, we express solidarity with the American people and condolences to the families of the victims, including the families of the 403 firefighters and police officers who fell in the line of duty in their attempt to save people trapped in the burning and collapsing buildings.
Today, in place of the Twin Towers, we have the Freedom Tower in New York, an even taller building, symbolizing that the strength of democracy, the rule of law, and human rights always prevail over the brutality and cruelty of terrorists of all kinds.
