The Acting First Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Development, and Dialogue of the Republic of Kosovo, Besnik Bislimi, together with the Governor of the Central Bank of Kosovo, Ahmet Ismaili, welcomed Burkhard Balz, member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank, and his team.
During the meeting, Mr. Balz congratulated the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo on their steady progress in the macroeconomic and financial sectors. Deputy Prime Minister Bislimi, in turn, briefed him on Kosovo’s achievements as well as the positive assessments received from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
The discussion also focused on the close and productive cooperation between the Bundesbank and the Central Bank of Kosovo, including the support provided by this German bank in building and strengthening the institutional capacities of the CBK. Further dialogue addressed continued support for the CBK’s efforts to join international financial institutions, as well as recent developments in digital projects and financial innovation.
Deputy Prime Minister Bislimi reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the Central Bank of Kosovo in its efforts to deepen cooperation with international partners such as the Bundesbank. During the meeting, Mr. Balz was also informed about the intensive work carried out by Kosovo’s institutions regarding SEPA membership, with the aim of Kosovo joining this mechanism like other countries in the region. However, the process is currently stalled due to the opposition’s referral of certain laws to the Constitutional Court.
