Edita Tahiri: Women should be promoting the dialogue

Minister for Dialogue Edita Tahiri, also the President of the Regional Women’s Lobby in Eastern Europe (RWLSEE) participated in the regional conference held in Skopje on 16 October 2015. The aim of the conference was to increase the role of women in political processes and EU integration in Macedonia and the region, with particular emphasis on women’s involvement in resolving the political crisis through dialogue and democratic means. The conference was organized by the Regional Women’s Lobby and UN Women, and was attended by political personalities and civil society from all countries in the region.

Minister Edita Tahiri, in her speech stressed that the empowerment of women in politics and decision-making is in the interest of all countries aimed at developing democratic and Euro-Atlantic integration. The state and society should invest more in favor of an equal status for women in all spheres of life. On the other hand, she stressed that women should be promoting dialogue and cooperation, especially at times of political crises in different countries because of their special values can help in overcoming the situation. They must excel in democratic processes and Euro-Atlantic integration becoming a credible factor in domestic and international policies. I appreciate the participation of women in politics, but more should be engaged to develop European values, among others where women today not only seen as a quote but the first protagonists, where the quality of women is measured by their engagement in solving political crises and this is the moment to show how women can do for the country and society.

Speaking on interethnic relations, Minister Tahiri also said that the Ohrid Agreement must be fully implemented and in a constructive manner to the benefit of Albanians in Macedonia. Multiethnic countries can not be conducted with monoethnic politics because such approaches are harmful and destabilizing, she said.

During the conference, also attended Renata Deskovska, Deputy of the Parliament of Macedonia, Irina Pockova, Member of Steering Committee of LRG in Macedonia, Teuta Arifi, Mayor of the Municipality of Tetovo, Emira Mehmeti, a member of Parliament of Macedonia, Savka Todorovska, President of the National Council of women of LRG, Rosa Tupozova, member of Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia, Mariana Berecz, Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission in Skopje, Nada Drobnjak, deputies from Montenegro, Memnuna Zvizdic, a member of the Steering Committee of the RWL in Bosnia and Herzegovina Gordana Sobol, member of the Parliament of Croatia, Flora Macula UNWOMEN Kosovo Palikovic Morana, former vice president of the Municipal Assembly in Zagreb – member of the Regional Women’s lobby, Croatia.
