Prishtina, 21 September 2021

“Our vision for the Republic of Kosovo is a country that promotes stability and security; not only for its citizens, but also for the region and beyond”, said the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, at the opening of the conference “KSF and partners”.

Kosovo aims to be an integral part of regional and global security structures; in particular NATO and the EU. It also wants to be part of regional initiatives and promote peaceful neighborly relations in order to increase stability and trust between countries in the region, he added.

Prime Minister Kurti expressed his deep gratitude for the important role that NATO, through KFOR, has played in the development of our security sector and in maintaining a secure environment in Kosovo.

Below is the speech of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, at the Conference “KSF and partners”

Honorable Minister of Defense, Mr. Mehaj,
Distinguished Ambassadors,
Dear Attachés, Excellencies
Honorable generals, officers,

Good morning!

It is a great pleasure to address you today at this conference, “KSF and partners”.

I would like to start by thanking you and your countries for all the support and commitment in advancing the capabilities of the Kosovo Security Force.

In the current security environment, regional, continental and global peace and stability require joint efforts to address many security challenges, threats and risks.

Often these challenges are unpredictable and unpredictably complex. This reaffirms our strong belief that the commitment and cooperation of all countries and nations is essential in preventing, managing and responding to the security threats of our time.

And so, cooperative security remains our primary task and commitment.

Our vision for the Republic of Kosovo is a country that promotes stability and security; not only for its citizens, but also for the region and beyond.

Kosovo aspires to be an integral part of regional and global security structures; in particular NATO and the EU. It also wants to be part of regional initiatives and promote peaceful neighborly relations in order to increase stability and trust between countries in the region.

The Republic of Kosovo takes seriously its primary responsibility to provide security to its citizens. We are grateful for the important role that NATO, through KFOR, has played in the development of our security sector and in maintaining a secure environment in Kosovo.

However, we must continue to build our institutions to provide protection and security for all citizens of our country, from a nation that is a consumer of security to one that is a provider of security. The Government is committed to advancing the capabilities of the Kosovo Security Force in order to serve alongside the armies of NATO countries in vital peacekeeping operations.

Therefore, we are doing an analysis of various aspects of the security sector. The Minister of Defense has already proposed amending the defense laws, which has already been approved by the Government. I hope that all of you will be able to support the Ministry of Defense in this matter with professional expertise from your countries.

The Republic of Kosovo aims to join and integrate into Euro-Atlantic structures that are essential for our country. We are committed to being exporters of regional and international security. Indeed, Kosovo’s national security is intertwined with regional and wider Euro-Atlantic security. We hope to become a full member of the Adriatic Charter in the near future, and of all other regional initiatives, as well as to contribute to regional and transnational security.

Therefore, we ask for the support of all of you so that we can become a full member of regional initiatives and join our neighbors in facing new threats in the region, Europe and beyond.

It is in the interest of the Republic of Kosovo and certainly in the interest of all countries in the region, to promote and deepen the cooperation of our forces.

Despite limited resources and budgetary constraints, Kosovo would like to participate in merging and sharing capacities with our neighbors. Kosovo is ready to contribute to regional and international operations.

Finally, I would like to express once again my sincere gratitude to all the participants and hope that your time here will be productive, and that we can meet physically at the next conference. I wish you good health, prosperity and peace for you and your countries.

Thank you!
