Prishtina, 23 December, 2022

Universal digitization is one of the key objectives of the governing program and is part of all the pillars of the National Development Plan 2030, said the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, at the first meeting of the Commission for Digital Transformation.

Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that through the development of electronic government, we are aiming to increase transparency and accountability and improve our services to citizens and businesses.

With digitalization, which is closely related to the reform and modernization of the public administration, electronic services will be created, which have the citizen at the center, he added.

Given the importance of digital transformation in all areas of government, and the need for advancement of governance mechanisms for the realization of this transformation, the Commission for Digital Transformation has been established, which will supervise and ensure the success of the digital transformation process. The Commission will examine and approve the strategic priorities and initiatives of the Government’s new policies in the field of information technology and digitalization, provide strategic direction, as well as ensure inter-institutional coordination in projects of high importance in this field.

In the meeting, it was emphasized that during this year that we are leaving behind, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo has taken several important steps in the field of digitization:

A number of electronic services have been launched for citizens and businesses, focusing on the most used services, which have caused the most queues at counters.

The electronic system for the drafting of legislation has been launched and we have started piloting the important project of connecting the citizen with the address.

The government has approved the new education strategy, where digitization in education is one of its 5 pillars.

The draft law on cyber security has been approved by the Government and the system for monitoring the frequency spectrum has been launched.

The launch of the data center for the Academic and Research Network of Kosovo has been promoted.

Our country for the first time became the host of the regional Digital Summit.

The government is finalizing the key strategic documents of the e-government strategy, the cyber security strategy and the digital agenda.

All preparations have been made for the start of the implementation of strategic projects with development partners such as USAID, GIZ and the World Bank.

Recently, our progress in the field of digitization has also been recognized by the World Bank’s Government Technology Maturity Index (GTMI). This year, Kosovo has been categorized in group B of countries with a significant focus on digital governance, which marks progress from 2020, when it was categorized in group C of countries with a limited focus on digital governance.
