Prime Minister Kurti’s address at the 132nd meeting of the Government

March 8, 2023

Prishtina, 8 March, 2023

Dear Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers and Deputy Ministers,
Dear citizens,

Welcome to this important meeting, marked day, historic week.

On International Women’s Day, of all women, we honor the successes they have achieved historically. Today and every day we honor the contribution of women who are no longer here and we fight together with women and girls for more rights and equality.

Our government remains committed to democratic and social policies that ease the burden of injustice that women carry on their shoulders.

We continue the efforts and the battle for social equality, for gender equality.

From home to institutions, let’s make Kosovo more equal.

Happy March 8, International Women’s Day!

Today we honor and remember the contribution of women in the liberation struggle and throughout our history. We do not forget the great pain that does not go away and a great wound that the state has the obligation to heal.

We are continuing the application process for recognition of the status of survivors of sexual violence during the war, an important process for our history and country and one of the prerequisites for building lasting peace in the country.

We honor the irreplaceable role of the survivors, who have spoken publicly about their cases, and especially Vasfije Krasniqi Goodman, who continues to be a vocal advocate in our country and internationally.

On March 5, 6 and 7, together we commemorated the Epopee of the Kosovo Liberation Army and the uplifting heroism of the Jashari Family.

Yesterday, on the third day of the KLA Epopee, on Teacher’s Day, we remembered Shaban Jashari also as a teacher.

March 7, this date is an expression of knowledge, love for the homeland and for history, for science and for art.

The main knowledge of the teacher is to awaken the passion in the student and with this motive we wish the teachers their perfect mission. The army of knowledge and the army of defense, these are the two moments of all human and nationwide consciousness.

Glory to the martyred teachers, who inherited us through sacrifice, the school, the most sublime place, where the consciousness of a whole life is founded!

At the end of the 25th anniversary of the Epopee, today at the 132nd meeting of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, as the first item on the agenda, we will have before us the decision to approve the conditions for the Announcement of the Procurement Procedure for The project of the “Adem Jashari” Memorial Complex in Prekaz. As the Government, we have treated the “Adem Jashari” Memorial Complex in Prekaz with high priority and special care.

Since the establishment of the Inter-Ministerial Committee in 2021, just one month after the formation of the Government, we have taken sure steps towards the protection of values and the development of the master plan for the Memorial Complex.

Last year, we took care to consolidate the physical condition of the buildings in this Complex and thanks to emergency interventions, the safety condition of the endangered buildings within the complex has improved.

The Memorial Complex is our mirror, the mirror in which we see ourselves, through which others see us, there we find the glory of yesterday, the strength for tomorrow.

With this project, we will bring to life the common vision of the fair and proper representation of the heroic history, the unrepeatable sacrifice and the incomparable contribution of the Jashari Family for the liberation of our country.

Dear citizens,
Dear Government colleagues

In today’s meeting, we will also have an important draft law from the Ministry of Health for the provision of drugs at an affordable cost to our citizens.

Because, in addition to being available, drugs must also be affordable. It is not enough that they are on the drugstore shelves, if they are not in the drawers of our homes. It is not enough for the pharmacist to have them, if the patient does not have them. We need both, without sacrificing health and saving the pocket.

Thank you!
