Pristina, October 5, 2022

With the certification ceremony of the participants, where 100 young men and women from all communities in Kosovo have benefited from the internship experience in institutions, the project implemented by the Office for Community Affairs within the Office of the Prime Minister, supported by the Embassy of Norway, has been completed.

Youth continues to be the focus of our government policies and our public engagements, because our future development mostly depends on how we support and treat our youth, by not forgetting that the average age in the Republic of Kosovo is only 31 years, said in his speech the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti.

The Prime Minister restated that the Government is committed to increasing the training and employment opportunities, with various policies, such as the one launched during the summer “one employee in every family”. Hence, no family in our country is left without at least one employee.

While with the Economic Recovery Package, we are implementing the guaranteed employment scheme for young people, we are continuing to support the projects of youth organizations, he said.

The Prime Minister emphasized that in order to increase jobs and mitigate inequality among young people, from this school year we have started providing dual education in four profiles, in order to connect the labour market, i.e. the needs of the labour market with the curricula, with the educational system, respectively the vocational training and education curricula. That is how we intend to carry out bridging of the skills gap and replacing emigration with employment.

For this purpose, the Government has allocated €3.5 million for the provision of professional internship for students of vocational education and training schools, 106 scholarships to encourage girls to follow technical profiles and boys to follow deficit profiles, as well as about 1,000 coupons for graduates of vocational schools to attend IT courses. With the purpose of closing the existing gender gap in professions, in the academic year 2021/2022, 1,365 university scholarships have been allocated to students in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, or as it is otherwise known, STEM.

During the ceremony, it was emphasized that the Government and institutions are focused to develop better plans and programs, to offer maximum opportunities and to achieve the highest potentials for young men and women, for their present but also for their and our country’s future.

Prime Minister Kurti’s full speech:

The honourable Ambassador of Norway, Mr. Jens Erik Grøndahl,
Dear interns from all communities in Kosovo,
Dear colleagues from the institutions of the Republic,
Ladies and gentleman,

We were together during the summer at our conference, where I congratulated you for the eagerness and courage you have shown by using this opportunity for your professional preparation, as well as for the role in our institutions.

It is a pleasure to be with you again, and also with the Norwegian ambassador, to celebrate together the achievements of the project implemented by the Office for Community Affairs within the Office of the Prime Minister, supported by the Embassy of Norway with 90 thousand Euros, where 100 young women and men benefited.

I hope that now you can take the opportunity to reflect on these 6 months. Think about the things you’ve learned, the people you’ve met, the new experiences and skills you’ve acquired. I hope that while you are thinking about this, you will be proud of yourself, and also proud of Kosovo, for which you have contributed.

I know that some of you have already found employment opportunities and that makes us all happy. I wish you all continued success in your careers, wherever you go and whatever you do.
Our government is committed to increasing opportunities training and employment, with various policies, such as the one launched during the summer “one employee in every family”. So that no family in our country is left without at least one employee. Once again, congratulations, and I wish you all the best in your commitments and work.

Thank you.
