Pristina, September 4, 2022

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has received a joint letter from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.

“For the Western Balkans, the full normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia is of crucial importance” the letter states.

“We have therefore tasked our Foreign and Security Policy Advisors, Mr. Jens Plötner and Mr. Emmanuel Bonne, to directly support Miroslav Lajčak in his efforts” the letter states.

Full letter to Prime Minister Kurti:

Dear Prime Minister,

We are addressing this letter to you at a crucial point in time for security on the European continent and stability in the Western Balkans region.

We are convinced that in the light of the Russian aggression against Ukraine, we need to make even stronger efforts for the European perspective of the Western Balkan countries to become a reality and to solve longstanding bilateral and regional disputes.

For the Western Balkans, the full normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia is of crucial importance.

We are addressing you as the leader of your country in order to appeal to you to show maximum resolve and readiness to take difficult decisions leading to progress in the EU-led dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.

Recent tensions have shown that constructive steps way forward are urgently needed, both on the practical and political level.
We have therefore tasked our Foreign and Security Policy Advisors, Mr. Jens Plötner and Mr. Emmanuel Bonne, to directly support Miroslav Lajčak in his efforts.

Our proposal is that our Advisors conduct a joint visit together with Miroslav Lajčak to Kosovo and Serbia, in order to explore options for the process to move forward quickly.

We very much hope that this initiative will meet your interest and support.

Yours sincerely,
