Prime Minister Kurti received the delegation from the Portuguese Parliament

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti received in his office the parliamentary delegation from Portugal consisting of the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Policy and member of the parliament Sergio Sousa Pinto, the Political Coordinator of the Social Democratic Party and member of the Committee for Foreign Policy, and also a member of the parliament Tiago Moreira de Sa, and the adviser to the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Raul Oliveira. They are staying in Kosovo for an official visit.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, a member of the parliament from the ranks of the Socialist Party which leads the Government of Portugal since 2015, Sergio Sousa Pinto said that together with the MP de Sa, who comes from the ranks of the Social Democratic Party, they represent the national consensus of Portugal regarding the region. As a friendly country and ally of Kosovo, he confirmed Portugal’s support towards Kosovo’s full integration into Euro-Atlantic, EU, and NATO structures. At this meeting, it was said that Portugal also supports visa liberalization for Kosovo without new conditions.

Prime Minister Kurti welcomed the Portuguese delegation to Kosovo and thanked Portugal for its early and continuous support for our country, people, and state, especially in the field of security through its troops within the KFOR mission. Among others, he spoke of the important role that Portugal can play in relation to non-recognizing countries, with special emphasis on Spain and Brazil. As for the good bilateral relations between Kosovo and Portugal, Prime Minister Kurti called for an increase in commercial, cultural, and economic exchanges while informing the delegation of the latest economic and democratic indicators of the country as well as the opportunities that Kosovo offers to foreign investors.

At the end of this meeting, there was an exchange of views on the war in Ukraine, regarding which they share the same position, describing it as an act of unprovoked and unjustified aggression on the part of the Russian Federation against the people and the state of Ukraine. Prime Minister Kurti informed the Portuguese delegation about the prompt decisions of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo to impose sanctions against Russia in accordance with the sanctions imposed by the European Union, the United States of America, and the United Kingdom, as well as about the Government’s program on accommodating 20 Ukrainian journalists, 11 of whom are already residents of Pristina. He added that solidarity towards Ukraine must continue.
