Prime Minister Kurti received in a meeting the six Kosova medalists at the Mediterranean Games, in Oran, Algeria

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosova, Albin Kurti, accompanied by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), Hajrulla Çeku, and the Deputy Minister of MCYS, Daulina Osmani, received in a meeting the Kosova medalists at the Mediterranean Games, in Oran, Algeria, including Distria Krasniqi, Loriana Kuka and Laura Fazliu, gold medalists, Flaka Loxha, Akil Gjakova, and Shpejtim Bajoku, bronze medalists.

Ismet Krasniqi, president of the Kosova Olympic Committee, Agron Kuka, president of the Kosova Judo Federation, Driton Kuka and Majlinda Kelmendi, judo trainers, Enver Krasniqi, president of the Kosovo Boxing Federation, and Besim Brahimi, coach of the boxing national team, were also present at the meeting.

The Prime Minister congratulated the athletes and their coaches for the successes achieved at the Mediterranean Games. He expressed his gratitude and thanks for the extraordinary commitment and dedication to victory, constantly reaffirming the potential of our talented youth.

In the second participation in the Mediterranean Games, during July 2022, Kosova was represented by 39 athletes from 13 different sports: judo, boxing, karate, wrestling, marksmanship, archery, tennis, gymnastics, swimming, athletics, taekwondo, badminton and table tennis.

Out of a total of 8 judokas from Kosova participating in this competition, 5 judokas won medals. With this result, Kosovo became the second most successful country after Spain, in the sport of judo at the Oran 2022 Mediterranean Games.

The bronze medal won by Shpejtim Bajoku is the first medal won after 31 years at the Mediterranean Games, when the boxer Ilir Mustafa achieved this success in 1991 in Athens, winning a silver medal, while he was a representative of the former Yugoslavia.

Unlike the previous Mediterranean Games in Tarragona, Spain, when Kosova won four medals, this time they won 2 more medals, with a total of 6 (3 gold and 3 bronze).

Last time all the medals were won from the sport of judo, while this time we also have a medal from the sport of boxing.
