Prishtina, 21 July 2022

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosova, Albin Kurti, participated in the ceremony organized by the Ministry of Regional Development for the signing of contracts with the beneficiaries of the Balanced Regional Development Program (BRDP 2022).

Remembering that in the last two years our country has also faced the COVID-19 pandemic, Prime Minister Kurti said that as the Government we have continuously undertaken numerous measures through various schemes, aiming at the well-being of the citizen and the public welfare.

Among these measures, within the Economic Recovery Package, which is worth 570 million euros, he singled out the support of businesses through subsidizing employees’ wages and rents, allowances for maternity and children, allowances for private and public sector employees and pensioners, electricity subsidies for families and businesses, help for families in social assistance, increased support for agriculture and, more recently, the guaranteed employment scheme “Government for Families”.

The Program for Balanced Regional Development is another supporting scheme that we have designed together, said Prime Minister Kurti. It aims at the socio-economic development of the developing regions through the creation of new jobs, the support of new and productive businesses, with the aim of reducing imports, and at the same time a proof that the government is committed to supporting the private sector in the service of all-round economic development, said Prime Minister Kurti.

He congratulated all the beneficiaries within the Balanced Regional Development Program 2022 and wished them success and good luck in the implementation of the projects.

The speech of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosova, Albin Kurti:

Honourable Minister of Regional Development, Mr. Fikrim Damka,
Honourable representative of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Mrs. Leonora Kusari,
Dear beneficiaries of the Grant Scheme – Balanced Regional Development Program 2022,
Ladies and gentleman,
Sisters and brothers,
Dear participants,

In the last two years, our country, like the whole world, has faced the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially in the field of public health, then also in the economic sector, these effects which are continuing to take place in our everyday life.

Of course, in the face of these, we have continuously undertaken numerous measures through various support schemes, always aiming at the well-being of the citizen and the welfare of public – from supporting businesses through subsidizing employees’ wages and rents, maternity and child allowances, allowances for private and public sector employees and pensioners, electricity subsidies for families and businesses, help for families in social assistance to increased support for agriculture and recently the guaranteed employment scheme “Government for Families”. The Economic Recovery Package is approximately, in general, worth 570 million euros, which is about 7 percent of the gross domestic product.

Now, the Balanced Regional Development Program is another support scheme that we designed together. It aims at the socio-economic development of developing regions through the creation of new jobs, the support of new and productive businesses, with the aim of reducing imports. This is also a proof that we are committed to supporting the private sector in the service of comprehensive economic development. And we know very well that the biggest burden in our state for the employment of our population is carried by the private sector, which we as a state must help.

Allow me, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, to wish all the beneficiaries within the Balanced Regional Development Program 2022 success and good luck in the implementation of the projects.

I also want to thank the Minister of Regional Development, Mr. Fikrim Damka and his staff for their work and commitment and wish you success in the implementation of this program.

Thank you very much!
