The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, welcomed to the meeting the members of the Board of Directors of the Health Insurance Fund, appointed at the 86th meeting of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo.

On behalf of the Board, the Deputy Minister of Health, Dafina Gexha-Bunjaku, also the Chairperson of the Board, informed Prime Minister Kurti about the constitutive meeting held yesterday and about the decisions taken at this meeting. In addition to the election of the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the Board, at this meeting, with a majority of votes, it was decided that the current director of the Health Insurance Fund, Fatmir Plakiqi, will be temporarily removed from his job. In his place, the acting Director, Bujar Kaçuri, was appointed.

Having the common goal of building the health insurance system, the members of the Management Board stated that this system is preceded by the drafting and finalization of clinical protocols, the standardization of the licensing of health professionals and, above all, the finalization of the health information system and its connection with all other relevant systems. They said that the paradoxical situation of health insurance and the Health Insurance Fund since 2015, where the insurance does not exist because the collection of the insurance premium has never started and the Fund performs the function of handling cases outside public health institutions, it will be corrected soon as the health insurance system is worked on.

Prime Minister Kurti congratulated the members of the Board for their new duties and wished them success in fulfilling their goals, which are also the Government’s. He said that the Board has the full support of the Government in implementing their responsibilities and goals, as he emphasized the importance of the transparency of this institution.
