Prime Minister Kurti met the ambassadors of the QUINT countries

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, together with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Kreshnik Ahmeti, today hosted the ambassadors of the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Italy, to discuss the application of the Republic of Kosovo for membership in the Council of Europe.

Prime Minister Kurti thanked the QUINT ambassadors and countries for their support for this important application. The Republic of Kosovo shares the same values and principles with the Council of Europe, and these are also embodied in our Constitution, through the incorporation of important conventions of the Council of Europe. He emphasized that the visible progress of the Republic of Kosovo in the international indexes of human rights and freedoms, of democracy and the rule of law, are some of the evidences that show that the Republic of Kosovo should be a full member of the Council of Europe and the membership process started, should continue without delay.

Deputy Minister Ahmeti informed the ambassadors of the developments so far in the membership process and thanked them for their support in creating momentum for the passing of the first phase of the process. The legal opinion on the application of the Republic of Kosovo, given by the Legal Department of the Council of Europe, has sealed once and for all the right of the Republic of Kosovo to be a full member in this organization. Intensive and coordinated lobbying with partners has provided the necessary support for the further application process of the Republic of Kosovo, towards its membership in the Council of Europe.

Also, at this meeting, Prime Minister Kurti informed the ambassadors about the latest developments in the dialogue process with Serbia and the readiness of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo to continue discussions on the implementation plan within the EU proposal, supported by Germany, France, Italy and the United States of America.
