The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, welcomed the new Ambassador of Sweden to Kosovo, Jonas Westerlund, in a welcoming meeting. This is not Prime Minister Kurti’s first meeting with Ambassador Westerlund. 23 years ago, in the summer of 1998, they met in Sweden at a conference where Prime Minister Kurti was also participating as a representative of the student union.

Remembering the first meeting and the circumstances in which Kosovo and its people were, Prime Minister Kurti congratulated Ambassador Westerlund on his new assignment. He thanked him for Sweden’s continuous support in the construction and development of Kosovo, especially in the projects of democracy and good governance, human rights, gender equality and the environment, and offered the full cooperation of the Prime Minister’s Office. In this direction, he singled out as important the cooperation in gender projects, the reform in public administration, the dual system of education, the Sovereign Fund and the advancement of the Statistics Agency. Meanwhile, on a bilateral level, he emphasized the importance of commercial cooperation between the two countries. Prime Minister Kurti further spoke about the economic performance in the last year and the positive indicators of democracy, underlining that Kosovo is a success story that proves that economic development and quality democracy can go hand in hand.

Ambassador Westerlund expressed his happiness that they are meeting after 23 years. He thanked him for the welcome, congratulations and readiness for cooperation. Among his priorities as ambassador, he said, is the growth of commercial cooperation between Sweden and the Republic of Kosovo.
