Prishtina, 10 September 2022

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti and the Minister of Finance, Labor and Transfers, Hekuran Murati held the next meeting with the Chairman of the Union of Independent Trade Unions of Kosovo (BSPK), Atdhe Hykolli.

They discussed for more than an hour about the strike called by the BSPK, about the union demand for the additional EUR 100 and about the Government’s actions so far in dealing with other preliminary demands of the unions.

Prime Minister Kurti informed Mr. Hykolli that the Draft Law on Public Sector Wages had completed the preliminary consultations phase and that it would go to public consultations the following week, and he invited the BSPK to participate in these consultations.

Meanwhile, the new package for Coping with Inflation was presented last week, which is a continuation of support to citizens, from which all citizens, including public sector employees, benefit. In addition to direct financial assistance for employees in the public and private sectors, students, families on social assistance, and pensioners, the package relieves those who save from the burden of electricity bills. This assistance to citizens is the most extensive in the region and beyond.

He also stated that the government he leads is ready to address union demands that address the problems of public sector workers in a systematic manner. He took as evidence the MESTI decisions to allocate EUR 1.7 million for 300 teachers with health problems, an additional budget for teachers who qualify as surplus so that they do not go unemployed, equal treatment of elementary and secondary teachers in lower secondary education, the elimination of injustices between all categories of education workers, and the highest coefficient ever for teachers under the new draft law.
