Prime Minister Kurti and Minister Nagavci visited the Rectorate of the University

Together with the Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Arbërie Nagavci, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti visited the Rectorate of the University of Pristina “Hasan Prishtina” where they were received and met with the Rector Qerim Qerim and the University management.

Prime Minister Kurti and Minister Nagavci were informed about the work and challenges of this institution and informed its management about the work and actions undertaken so far with the aim of improving higher education. Emphasis was given to the Draft Law on Higher Education that has already been approved by the Government and the advancements it foresees in ensuring academic integrity.
The meeting also discussed the success noted in terms of the number of citations according to the Cybermetrics Lab platform, the process of digitalization of services and administrative processes and the representation of women in the STEM fields.

According to the latest measurements, the University of Pristina “Hasan Prishtina” has registered a total of 56518 citations in “Google Scholar Citations”, which marks an increase of 12288 citations from the last publication made in July last year. The University of Pristina continues to lead as the university with the highest ranking in the Albanian-speaking region.

Regarding digitization, Rector Qerimi said that he and the management are oriented towards the digitization of the University’s administrative processes. In this regard, Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that the digital transformation benefits the economy and the administration and that the digitalization of administrative processes guarantees accountability, quality in services and transparency.

According to the management, in recent years there has been an increase in the representation of women in the STEM fields and that the MASHTI scholarships for these fields have had a positive effect on the motivation of students. The percentage of girls studying computer engineering and computer science at the University of Pristina has reached over 60%.

Prime Minister Kurti thanked him for his commitment, congratulated him on his new position and wished Rector Qerimi and the management good luck in fulfilling the common goals for the University of Pristina, which continues to be of great importance in emancipation and comprehensive development.

In this meeting, Prime Minister Kurti was accompanied by his political advisor for Information Technology, Lulëzon Jagxhiu, while Minister Nagavci was accompanied by her political advisor for Higher Education, Arrita Gola.
